They have something like 50 taps that are constantly being rotated, and they’ll let you try a taste of something if you’ve never had it before. As someone who loves craft beer, it doesn’t get any better than this. Bottom line: great, unpretentious spot with the best taps in Seattle. To be fair, the people who frequent Chuck’s seem to be just as capable in getting their kids to behave as they are their dogs, but… I’d nonetheless be remiss if I didn’t voice my one little gripe. My only complaint about the place is that people bring their kids there when I’m going out for a relaxing evening of beer and street grub, kids aren’t part of the equation. Staff is super friendly and knowledgable, always happy to pour a sample, give your dog a treat, and keep the line from getting too slow even at the busiest times. Friday’s late night El Cabrito is probably my favorite, and, really, who doesn’t want to end the work week with some awesome tacos? Stella Fiore and Hallava Falafel are two more great vendors on the regular weekly schedule, and not-so-regular rotators like Napkin Friends bring some excellent variety. It’s also a handy reminder for when the trucks set up and close down (most are on for four-hour shifts). Serendipitous beer loving aside, I’m a planner and like to know what I’m in for on the food front, so the online truck schedule helps immensely. It’s also a great place to sample Seattle’s food truck scene. I almost feel bad when I’m stopping by to stop and fill a growler on my way to a party, because I’d love to stay and enjoy a few solid pints of beers I don’t get a chance to sample often (or ever). The color-coded menu makes it easier to narrow down from the carefully curated 50+ taps based on what you’re in the mood to guzzle. There are always new, amazing concoctions on tap from northwest, national, and some international breweries, and the bottle selection is impressive. It’s dog friendly, and even when the place is packed, I’ve never seen a dog misbehaving there. You can keep the $ 6, only thing I’ll miss is the food truck icing on the beer run cake.Ĭhuck’s is my absolute favorite neighborhood spot. What I don’t realize is why the neighborhood brew shop wouldn’t pull «premium craft beer» off its shelf after a year of not selling, or in this case, 2! I’m glad I did not assume this beer was safe to drink, as I might be writing this review from inside Swedish ER. I also realize that when you have EVERYTHING in your inventory, it’s hard to completely turn said product. I look at the bottled on date: 3÷ 20÷ 14 Two years old? Really? I realize that being a big specialty shop, you want to carry everything. He asked what beer it was (after telling me floaties aren’t necessarily a bad thing), and informed me the beer I bought hasn’t been made in awhile… turns out maybe a long while. He happens to be an actual brew master, lucky me. Yet this didn’t look right, so I phoned a friend. Either bottle-conditioning or maybe just old, I think to myself. Now, I’m no master brewer, but I know enough to not immediately see this as a problem. That is, until I reached the final bottle and noticed quite a plethora of floaties. I purchased a few specialty bottles to enjoy over the weekend, and boy did I. So much positive feedback, and yet only a 2 star rating, due largely in part, to my most recent experience. Good atmosphere and knowledgeable staff, not to mention a pretty decent selection of rotating food trucks. Not a bad place to get your brew fix, especially if your palate craves more than the meager offerings of your local supermarket.

Not only does it slam down ramp-shaped arms perfect for reaching its top weak spot-it even shoots blue rings at Sonic that do nothing but give him a speed boost. I also fought a few bosses that sort of reminded me of the ancient guardian things from Zelda, except the second one was gigantic and seemingly manufactured to be specifically defeated by Sonic the Hedgehog. A later puzzle asked me to follow a trail of squares on an LED grid (which I failed once because Sonic's movement is a little squirrely in small spaces). The earliest was as simple as turning a statue that was facing the wrong way. I solved three or four puzzles in the roughly 15 minutes I had in the main overworld, so they definitely weren't brain-twisters. Even worse is how often these garish objects would suddenly pop into existence as I ran by them.įrontiers also takes cues from Zelda's environmental puzzles. It's really weird to gaze at the earth-like mountains and meadows of Frontiers and notice the same old cartoony junk that Sonic's been platforming on for 30 years magically floating in mid-air, belting out the same old goofy sound effects against a lowkey piano track. It'd be one thing if the overworld was styled like a modern take on Green Hill Zone, but it's decidedly realistic. It doesn't help that the countless rails, jumpads, and speed ramps are placed haphazardly and visually clash with the rest of the world. Tossing Sonic around on tracks like a living pinball felt kinda cool in 2D, but I never jived with their translation to three dimensions. It's nice to take a breather and watch Sonic grind through a twirly loop for a few seconds, but that describes just about every platforming challenge I came across in my half hour of Frontiers. The chunk of Frontier's overworld I explored is polluted with distractions designed to kill momentum.Ī bit of nothing can be cool in moderation. Even with the newfound power to run in any direction, Sonic's still full of linear "obstacles" that essentially play themselves.īump into a springboard and I'm on a one-way trip to another spring, which leads to two more that eventually land on a grind rail that ends at some golden rings or an upgrade material I earned by doing just shy of nothing. But the chunk of Frontier's overworld I explored is polluted with distractions designed to kill momentum. Just imagining a Sonic game inspired by the fun of building momentum and sliding down hills in Tribes: Ascend puts a smile on my face. If that were all Sonic Frontiers is-a playground to explore and exploit the supernatural physics of being Sonic the Hedgehog-I'd be on-board in an instant. For a few blissful minutes, I felt like the fastest thing alive. Sonic runs straight up most rock faces (sick), can wallrun across gaps, and bounds effortlessly over rolling hills like an electric current following a wire. Sega gets to have some fun with speed here in a way that'd just feel ridiculous in a Zeld game. Sonic's default run speed is more like a puny jog that's only good for combat and puzzles, but slam down the right trigger and he instantly starts burning rubber. Don't forget that when you pre-order, you get the cheapest price that it drops to between now and the release date, so it is certainly worth getting it ordered now.Running is the one part of Frontiers that is an unqualified blast. Can I pre-order Sonic Frontiers?ĭespite us not having a concrete release date yet, you can actually pre-order Sonic Frontiers already, with GAME having the title listed. This will not be Sonic's first foray onto the Nintendo Switch as the classic Sonic 2 is currently part of the Nintendo Switch Online package. There is a wide range of choices for how you can play Sonic Frontiers as the game is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. What platforms can you get Sonic Frontiers on? We'll let you know as soon as we hear more, but it seems likely that this will be set for the winter months as one of the big gaming season titles for 2022. The Sonic Frontiers release date will take place in 2022, but Sega hasn't specified a day, a week or a month at this stage. When is the Sonic Frontiers release date? Here is everything that we know so far about Sonic Frontiers. And a well-timed game is coming too, which looks set to be the biggest game to date for Sonic, Tails and the rest of his friends. dmg installation file is completely not hosted in. Football Manager games are power consuming when played on PC’s due to its huge database and intuitive match engine.īefore I get deep into how the actual game plays, I will talk a little about performance on the Google Stadia version. I will outline that I am using a Google Chromecast with the official Stadia application using wi-fi connection with a download speed of 300mbps. I wanted to see how this title performed on the cloud as essentially, the game is streamed down onto a device of your choosing. You are in fact, fully responsible for the running of a football club of your choosing.įootball Manager 2020 is many years ahead of my childhood gaming era and obviously over time, gaming has evolved and improved, as have football management titles. That is the beauty of these games though, because you don’t actually see his green hair, but it puts your imagination into overdrive and the decisions in your hands. I recall Championship Manager 98 and I was spending my afternoons attempting to sign Taribo West because I thought it would be cool to have a player in my squad with green hair. I have been a fan of the genre for as long as I have been a gamer. There are two things you need to bear in mind when contemplating playing a Football Management sim and that’s whether you have a love and desire for all things football and also whether you like the idea of standing on the touchline instead of actually being responsible for scoring the goals yourself. The software facilitates moving files from these block devices - these transient Lustre file systems - to the capability tier of the overall IO subsystem of El Capitan, said De Supinski. Rabbit can be implemented as a “transient Lustre file system” across the compute blades. “You can actually access the SSDs directly from the compute blade, or you can treat it as just a block storage device allocated to a specific compute blade,” said de Supinski. The HPE Rabbit software is of course where much of the magic happens and allows the SSDs to be accessed both as direct attached storage and network attached storage. “Instead of populating all the switch blades, which would have given us far more interconnect bandwidth than we feel our workloads need, we’re going to populate some of those slots with Rabbit modules,” said de Supinski. The 4U Rabbit box plugs into the back of the Cray XE racks, where the switch modules are housed. “If we think about how Rabbit works, this is really like building a little nest of PCIe networks within the larger system,” said de Supinski. Here’s what HPE expects the Rabbit design to look like: HPE refers to Rabbit as near node local storage that combined with its custom Rabbit software supports a wide range of use cases, including resolving network bursts, optimizing input, and even running analysis processes.ĭe Supinski described the arrangement: “You have PCI connections from each of the compute nodes into what HPE calls the Rabbit-S boards, and that gives you a PCIe network that connects you to a fairly large number of SSDs and also to a Rabbit-P board, which has a separate AMD processor located on it that allows you to interact with the storage independent of the compute blades.” De Supinski explains that NRE contracts allow procurers, such as Livermore, to improve elements of the overall system, and those innovations then flow to the broader HPC market through the partnering vendor’s portfolio.Īt its core, Rabbit is a 4U solution for node local storage that encompasses 18 SSDs (16 and 2 spares) and one (AMD Epyc) storage processor. Under a non recurring engineering (NRE) contract funded by Livermore, HPE is developing near node local storage technology that it calls its Rabbit program. As has been previously disclosed, El Capitan will be powered by AMD CPUs and GPUs as part of the Cray EX architecture (formerly known as Shasta) with Slingshot networking. 15).Ī 2 exaflops supercomputer slated for delivery at Livermore in late 2022 or early 2023, El Capitan is a partnership between the Department of Energy lab and HPE (which acquired Cray in 2019). Details of this new storage technology were revealed by Livermore Computing CTO Bronis de Supinski at the Riken-CCS International Symposium, which took place earlier this week (Jan. Since 1987 - Covering the Fastest Computers in the World and the People Who Run ThemĪ near node local storage innovation called Rabbit factored heavily into Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s decision to select Cray’s proposal for its CORAL-2 machine, the lab’s first exascale-class supercomputer, El Capitan. If you have already been diagnosed with allergies, it is probably safe to say the allergies are the cause of your itchy eyes. Diagnosing Itchy Eyes – Should You Call Your Doctor? Thimerosal, a preservative used in ophthalmic products and found in many contact lens solutions, is one of the main culprits in allergic reactions to contact lens solutions. Some people may be allergic to their contact lens solutions, which can cause redness, discomfort, itching, and inflammation. Sometimes eyelashes grow back abnormally-a condition known as trichiasis, which may lead to irritation of the eyeball. With blepharitis, the eyelids become dry, scaly, and itchy. Blepharitis, a non-contagious eye disorder caused by bacterial or skin conditions, also causes itchy eyes. Dry eyes are known to cause discomfort and irritation. Itchy eyes can be caused by various eye conditions too. You can also scratch or cause other trauma to the surface of your eye by rubbing the itch. There are two types of allergic conjunctivitis: seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, which typically happens during the spring and fall, is caused by exposure to allergens like grass, pollen, and weeds. It can be acute or chronic, and depending on the severity, you may develop additional symptoms such as a swollen eyelid or blurred vision. Allergic conjunctivitis is more common in adults than in children, but it can develop at any age. Itchy eyes are often a symptom of allergies, or allergic conjunctivitis. In early times books were not stood up on shelves in the way they are today. The decoration of the boards is the most striking feature of an historic binding. In this case, the flyleaves are also earlier manuscripts. One particular feature of early bindings is the use of manuscript pastedowns (leaves of other, earlier manuscripts recycled to line the boards or to reinforce spines) and can be seen here. The boards are made of wood, which provided very sturdy protection and durability as was the custom in the fifteenth and early-sixteenth century before this tradition changed to pasteboard as an alternative to wood.Ĭhaining books by means of metal chain staples on the edges of the boards was common practice in libraries to prevent theft and nail holes and evidence of scarring from a chain staple can be seen on this board. It was most typically dyed a shade of brown. Calfskin was the type of leather most commonly used for bindings from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries, chosen on account of its availability, durability, suitability for impressed decoration and its aesthetically pleasing, fine-grained appearance. It is brown calfskin leather over rounded bevelled wooden boards. It is an example of a fine blind-stamped leather binding, which suggests that this book was valued (unfortunately we do not have information about the provenance of this manuscript). Oxford, along with Cambridge and London, became a major centre of bookbinding during the second half of the fifteenth century and Magdalen’s Old Library collection contains many Oxford bindings. The binding which encases MS 58 is an example of an early Oxford binding dating from the fifteenth century. It is a compilation of sententiae or authoritative statements on biblical passages and became the most frequently commented upon work of Christian literature, except for the Bible itself, and it influenced all major medieval thinkers. 1096-1164) was a theologian and Bishop of Paris and his work became the standard textbook of theology. Magdalen MS 58 is a manuscript of Peter Lombard’s 12 th century work Libri Quatuor Sententiarum, or The Four Books of Sentences. Not merely a means of holding a text together, bindings can provide valuable insight into book production, the book trade and how books were used and valued by their owners.Īn exhibition celebrating the wide variety of bindings in Magdalen’s collection is planned to be held in Hilary Term 2015 and this month’s Treasure of the Month features one example of an early binding in the collection. Prior to the mechanisation of book production, binding was a handcrafted process and all bindings are unique artefacts. Magdalen’s Old Library contains a wealth of examples of fine and historic bindings. The non-durable papyrus was typically a type of manuscript that was crafted into the form of a roll.An Early Binding From Magdalen’s Old Library Collection 31st October 2014 Its pages tend to snap off when they are repeatedly turned, and the folds are not strong enough to support the constant pressure on sewing threads on its spine. Up until the seventh or eighth century, this fragile Egyptian reed made the inexpensive material suitable for writing rolls but is was not sufficient for texts bound in books. The word papyrus refers to a thick type of paper made from the pith of the papyrus plant. The Middle Ages held a long heritage of papyrus writing production. Not all medieval manuscripts were written on parchment. This cycle of scraping and stretching was repeated over several days until the desired thinness was achieved. As the skin was dried, the craftsman adjusted the tension so that the skin remained taut. Once the fur was removed, the skin was stretched and scraped and stretched while still wet. The pelts were first soaked in a lime solution to loosen the fur. Most medieval manuscripts were written on specially treated animal skins called parchment or vellum that were thought to be stronger and slightly springy. |
